The Octavious Wing

Experience a few days of authentic period Country House living. The Octavius Wing is a splendid Victorian Country House, recently refurbished by the present owners.

The Hall retains a wealth of period features, including a grand oak staircase, fine corniced ceilings, working window shutters and three open fires. These features combine to create an authentic Edwardian / Victorian Country House atmosphere; the perfect surroundings for family get-togethers, celebrations, relaxation or company events.

The Octavius Wing is a completely self-contained wing of Crackenthorpe Hall and will be your very own period Country House. Set in splendid grounds, with approximately 400m of single bank private fishing on the River Eden, this prestigious home, provides very spacious and comfortable, centrally heated accommodation for at least 12 people. Additional beds /cots can be provided in several of the bedrooms if required.

Crackenthorpe Hall is within 2 miles of the ancient and attractive market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland; which has an ancient Castle, Churches, a good range of shops, Inns and restaurants, plus an 18 hole golf course and indoor swimming pool. A host of other activities and attractions are within easy reach, with the market town of Penrith being only a 15 minute drive away

Accommodation

The ground floor has four main reception rooms, namely

Great Hall - a grand double height (42ft) space with a grand oak staircase leading to the upstairs bedrooms and magnificent oak fireplace with open fire. The Great Hall’s most outstanding feature is the skylight, recently refurbished, which makes the Great Hall a light and airy space. The Great Hall gives access to drawing room, dining room and the games room

Dining Room – a fine period (31ft) dining room with original plaster ribbed and moulded ceiling, large oak table to seat 14. The dining room has access to the terrace via a large sliding sash window.

Drawing Room – A splendid (41ft) drawing room with fine plaster cornice, chandeliers and open fire. The drawing room is a fine example of an Edwardian entertaining space with fine views over the terraces and lawns and down to the river Eden.

Games Room – with pool table, table football, board games and childrens books and toys

Kitchen – A modern fitted kitchen created out of the former house keeper’s pantry featuring a Rangemaster range cooker with double oven, and American style fridge freezer with ice dispenser, Belfast sink and built in microwave combi oven. The kitchen is fully equipped with all usual small appliances, cutlery and crockery for 12 people

Entrance Hall – the former butler’s pantry with feature fireplace and leading o the downstairs bathroom / WC facilities. From the entrance hall doors lead to the Kitchen, Dining Room and the Great Hall.

Bedroom accommodation

All bedrooms are accessed from the Great Hall balcony and are named after Captain Machel’s Derby and Grand National Winners.

Isinglass Suite - Accessed from a mezzanine level, the Isinglass Suite is a self contained suite of two bedrooms and en suite shower room. The suite comprises a double bedroom and a twin bedded room (accessed via the double bedroom) and a modern en suite shower room. This suite is ideal for a family with children.

Regal Room – a large bedroom with four poster bed and original marble fireplace overlooking the terrace and river Eden. Extra children’s beds and / or cots can be accommodated in this room on request. This bedroom has direct access to the family bathroom.

Harvester Room – with king size bed and distant views over the lawns to the North Pennines, this room has a modern en suite shower room with steam shower.

Seaman Room – this is the largest bedroom and has a four poster bed and feature marble fireplace. The large bay window has views over the terrace and to the River Eden. Extra children’s beds and / or cots can be accommodated in this room on request.

Reugny Room – a twin bedded room with views over the lawns to the North Pennines

Family Bathroom 1 – with original cast iron bath with shower attachment and original WC cubicle (not in service) WC and basin

Family Bathroom 2 – a large bath and shower room with original cast iron bath and double size shower, His / Her sinks and bidet

Outside

Crackenthorpe Hall grounds extend to approximately 11 acres. Guests will have access to the majority of the grounds with the exception of the former coach house and cottage garden / greenhouse area.

There are two large lawned areas, and a children’s play area with swings, slide and trampoline, but most of the grounds are mature woodland with paths leading down to the River Eden and the grade ll listed turbine house.

Adjacent to one of the lawned areas is the 1891 grade ll listed summer house equipped with garden furniture, patio heater, light and power, ideal for relaxing on warm summer evenings.

Gas and charcoal BBQs, picnic tables, sun loungers and several sets of garden tables and chairs are provided for rexaing on the terrace or lawns.

Parking is available on the gravel courtyard in front of the Hall for up to 12 cars
